The most popular scams you’ll get concerning your website are for:

  1. Bogus Domain Registration Invoices
  2. Bogus Google Business Profile (GBP) Invoices
  3. Bogus Website Services, such as Backups, SSL Certificates, or other security scam.

Newer tactics to watch for

Scammers continue to evolve. In recent years we’ve seen an increase in tactics designed to look authentic and urgent. Be on the lookout for:

  • QR-code invoices that push you to pay via a mobile wallet or unknown portal.
  • ACH/Wire redirection requests claiming our banking details have changed.
  • AI-generated vendor impersonation via email, text, or voice that mimics real staff or suppliers.

How to verify and stay safe

Before you pay or share information, use these quick checks:

  • Call-back verification: Use the phone number listed in your HostUtopia client portal or on our official website—never the number on a suspicious invoice.
  • Domain and sender validation: Confirm the sender’s email domain and any website URLs match our official domain.
  • Avoid QR codes on invoices: Access billing only through your known HostUtopia portal link; do not scan unsolicited QR codes.
  • Banking detail changes: Always verify any payment-method changes with a known contact through a separate, trusted channel.
