How to install WordPress

As you may already know, we are huge fans of WordPress and use it to create our own websites.

We can’t say enough about how great this program is and hope that you will also enjoy the benefits and user friendly features that WordPress has to offer!

Getting Started

Once you’ve decided to install WordPress on your website you can use the following guidelines to learn how to set up your blog and site using Fantastico’s installation option.

• The first thing you need to do is log into your website’s cPanel account, then click either the HU Toolbox or Fantastico icons.

• Once you’ve entered into the Fantastico interface, scroll down until you see the Blogs section and just below it you should see WordPress in the list. Click on the WordPress link.
• You will be provided with some information about the version of WordPress you will be able to install. If the current version is not listed there you will be able to do the one-click-update once it’s installed. Click on “New Installation”.

The Installation Process

1. Installation:If you want your WP Website/Blog to be your website’s homepage, make sure that you leave that space blank- or type in the name of the folder you want WordPress installed to. If you are re-designing your site you may want to name it ‘new’, we can then move it to your root later when you’re finished.

2. Create Login Credentials: Choose the username and password you’d like to use in order to access the WordPress admin panel after installation is completed.
3. Configuration: Create a nickname you’d like to use throughout the blog which identifies who you are. By default, the nickname is used whenever you leave comments or write an entry on the blog, so make sure you choose something you don’t mind the world seeing. The admin e-mail address is where notices, passwords, and other information about the administration of the blog is sent.
4.  Finalization: Once your blog information is complete, click on the “Install WordPress” button at the bottom of the screen. Verify that the information you provided is correct and click on finish installation. Fantastico will create a brand new database for you and create the necessary WordPress files.

•  Once the set up process is complete, you will receive a confirmation notice with the details of the installation. If you’d like a copy of the report for your records, you’ll have the option to send an e-mail to an account of your choice.

After you go to this page, WordPress will do the rest. Just follow the onscreen directions, and then you’ll be all done. Voila!
